The UK hosted the 29th
Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings (ATCM) in
Edinburgh from 12-23 June 2006.
The ATCM was attended by around 300
representatives and experts from the Treaty Parties and a number of non-governmental organisations and agencies. For the first time during an ATCM, a series of public events in Edinburgh entitled
Discover Antarctica! offered the public an opportunity to find out more about Antarctica and the Antarctic Treaty whilst the ATCM delegates were in town. Find out more by visiting the
photo galleries and reading the
weblog of events that took place during the ATCM. You can also see scenic pictures of
Antarctica and its
wildlife.
On this website, you can find out more about the
Antarctic Treaty. You may wish to visit the
Antarctic Treaty Secretariat (ATS) website to find specific details of resolutions from this and previous ATCMs. The ATS has responsibility for assembling all the working and information papers for each ATCM and for the compilation and production of the report from each ATCM.
